The Sussex Combined Clubs Regatta is to be held in conjunction with the RNLI's 200th anniversary over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

To understand sailing and to be good at it you must realise it is one of the most challenging sports, even more challenging than climbing Everest. To achieve the ultimate objective in our sport there are far more categories of preparation than in any other sport. To realise the complexity of the sport you must know how to prepare for it with self and boat preparation, boat handling and tuning, race strategy and starts, tactics, racing rules, compass work, weather and tides. Combined with this you must have sea miles, knowledge and experience.

With all this in mind it is one of the most exhilarating, challenging and enjoyable sports there is. When you compete in The Round the Island Race (round the Isle of Wight) with 1200 boats it is an amazing sight to see the horizon covered with hundreds of yachts all flying spinnakers. It is also a very dangerous sport. Only last year on two cross channel races which Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club boats competed in, there were two fatalities. Normally it is an extremely safe sport with hundreds of yachts out racing over the weekends which encompass young and old alike.

The Regatta will be held at Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club over the August Bank Holiday Weekend. There will be two days of racing on the Saturday and Sunday with live bands, BBQ’s and fun. All crews will be given one month's free membership to SHYC on arrival.

The event will be attended by members from Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club, Sussex Yacht Club, Brighton Marina Yacht Club, Arun Yacht Club, Rye Harbour Sailing Club, Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club (Dover), Chichester Yacht Club, Calais Yacht Club, Boulogne Yacht Club and Le Treport Yacht Club. Pevensey Bay, Bexhill, Hastings and St Leonards Sailing Clubs will also be partaking, as well as a few boats from and Buzz Active.

If you wander down to the seafront from 10am onwards you'll be able to see the race fleet.

A big thanks and shout out to all the other sponsors for supporting what should be a superb weekend of racing.
