During theyachtmarket.com Southampton Boat Show up to 50 keen sailors, blue water cruisers and enthusiasts gathered at the 14th Century Dancing Man Brewery for this year’s annual Topsail Seminar.
The historic stone microbrewery was a great location for this year’s event, overlooking the boat show in Mayflower Park and providing an tranquil venue to hear from three renowned speakers.
This is the second speaker-led event and first all-day seminar hosted by Topsail for their customers, clients and friends. Retired surgeon, former Ocean Cruising Club Commodore and passionate naval historian, Martin Thomas took the guests through an insightful journey of the evolving health and medicine approaches of the British Navy.
Sailor and author Fiona Jones continued the presentations with her Illustrator Hannah, reading excerpts from her book. Fiona’s first book, in a planned series of six, follows a circumnavigation experience, highlighting nautical knowledge, language and introducing young people to the world of sailing. Hannah’s stunning illustrations accompanied the presentation for everyone to marvel at.
A wonderful hand-made buffet lunch split the day before accomplished British yachtsman and successful, internationally bestselling author and founder of Cornell Sailing, Jimmy Cornell was welcomed. Jimmy shared his stories and experience of sailing over 200,000 miles in all oceans of the world including three circumnavigations. An interactive Q&A followed where the audience got to ask Jimmy about his experience on long distance cruising and to be some of the first to get his brand new book 200,000 Miles - A Life of Adventure.
