Topsail Insurance attend the first race of the 2014 series
Both classes had clean starts on a fair line in slack tide and sailed up the first beat to an inflatable mark laid NW of Netley.
The wind stayed NW 5 knots for the first round of a laid windward/leeward course, up to the windward inflatable and back to the ODM giving everyone good beats and runs in the building flood tide. The wind then increased to 10 knots and veered gradually 30° to provide some off wind reaches liked by the double handers.
Both classes raced 3 rounds of the course and finished after an hour of racing, just as the sun officially set prompting nav lights to come on.
Back in the bar, thirsts were quenched and Topsail presented a bottle of wine to each class winner and a bottle of Topsail Beer for each wining crew member.
The Race 1 winners were Magec in the Fully Crewed Class 1 and Glass Onion in the Double Handed White Sail Class 3.
Broad smiles of achievement were seen on Helen Hofmann and Steve from Jaslan, who were delighted to have completed their first ever race and were congratulated on coming third in the Double Handed Class for a podium place finish!
Topsail insurance are very proud to be sponsoring the Royal Southampton Yacht Club race Evening Series and look forward to attending the forthcoming races.
A big thank you to the race management team of Simon Pickess on the rib, Mark Matthews, Sue Neath, Brian Hinde, Rob Lamb and Tina Scott on The Hound, and Sue also doing the results ashore afterwards.
