You might remember that back in July, the Jubilee Sailing Trust were working incredibly hard to reach an ambitious fundraising goal of £1,000,000, in order to save the Charity and enable them to continue the incredible work that they do.
Thankfully, the JST were able to well exceed their £1,000,000 target, but there were still changes to be made in order to guarantee the future of the trust – the first and main change being the decommissioning of STS Lord Nelson in October. We are very pleased however that SV Tenacious will continue to operate and enable people to take on a new challenge on board, without feeling restricted or disadvantaged.
The Trustees of the JST have now announced that there will be another change for 2020 – Duncan Souster, Chief Executive of the Jubilee Sailing Trust, has resigned effective 31st December.
Having been in this position since 2015, and a Trustee for 8 years prior, Duncan has delivered some incredible achievements in his position. Under his leadership, the JST achieved UN Accreditation, delivered their first extensive overseas sailing program, and achieved an incredible amount of fundraising, including enough to repay the mortgage on Tenacious! Duncan also of course led the Emergency Fundraising Appeal in July.
The Jubilee Sailing Trust, their volunteers and crew are all incredibly grateful to Duncan for all that he has achieved while with the charity, and wish him every success for the future.
With effect from 2nd December the JST has appointed Patrick Fleming as Chief Executive Officer and Development Director, who will be working with Duncan Souster during the first few weeks to ensure a smooth changeover.
Patrick previously worked at the British Library, as Director of Development. He led a fundraising team that was tasked with raising £100 million pounds, and pioneered the delivery of a number of preservation and development projects. Patrick also previously served as a Trustee of Wessex Heartbeat, a charity who aim to improve cardiac care in their region.
This experience certainly proves that Patrick is a great selection for the position – he will be working hard with the volunteers and staff at the JST to improve and develop their services, and will endeavour to attract new audiences and Patrons to the charity.
