Since 1991 coffee mornings have been taking place across the nation not only to eat cake and drink tea but to raise funds and awareness for the essential work done by Macmillan Cancer Support.
In 2011 the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning raised a record £10million that went to help people affected by cancer.
This year we decided to get involved and take part by hosting our own coffee morning in the office. Sadly, there are now 2.5 million people in the UK living with cancer, one in three of us will get cancer. By 2030, it will be four million people, and Macmillan Cancer Support wants to make sure no one faces it alone.
While the stats are not encouraging, it is inspiring to know that Macmillan Cancer Support is out there and wanting to help everyone of us. With this in mind we had a fun morning in the office with lots of sweet treats and we raised over £70.
This brings the total raised so far, across the nation to an amazing £8,641,243.02!
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. People from all over the UK host their own Coffee Mornings with donations on the day going to Macmillan. Last year alone £25 million was raised!
You can still get involved and host your own World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, find out more here.
