Charlotte's Blog: Topsail Takes to the Seas

This Father's Day the Topsail team spent the day together, on the water, tackling some new sailing skills onboard the stunning Ocean Youth Trust's (OYT) BM ketch.

After being offered a day sail with the OYT onboard Prolific from Southampton, the Topsail Insurance team of Chris, Rob, Charlotte, Meaghan, Reina, Laura, Peter, James and Sam were joined by Karl, Tony and Jack from new insurers Amlin.

Newest member of the Topsail team, Charlotte let us know how the day went;
The voyage started from the Ocean Village Marina in Southampton and we set sail for the Solent. Due to the high winds we moored up in a sheltered spot for lunch at Osborne Bay. After a tasty lunch we sailed back across the Solent heading for the Ocean Village marina avoiding the busy Sunday racing!

Everyone was very keen and eager to be involved in all aspects of the sailing, from being in charge of a roaming fender when docking to the whole team working to hoist the mainsail.

The OYT team were amazing, all very knowledgeable and took the time to explain the jobs that needed doing around the vessel. They were also very accommodating to the people that didn’t have any sailing experience, Meaghan and Reina hadn’t done very much sailing before but both of them were helming the vessel towards the end of the day and that was all thanks to the amazing OYT team.

I think that this was a great team building event, all of the tasks that needed completing where not a one person job which meant everybody had to get stuck in. There was the chance for everyone to do as much or as little as they liked.

It was great to be back out on the water, we had a nice bit of breeze that on occasions was gusting up to a force six meaning we were doing some proper sailing. It was also great to be out with the team away from the office and just have some fun.

Prolific is just an incredible vessel, although the boat itself is much larger to any dinghy I have sailed the general concept is the same, everything is just on a larger scale! It was great to experience sailing on a vessel of her size and to see the incredible work that OYT South do for giving young people the skills to succeed in life.

I would just like to say a massive thank you to the Ocean Youth Trust South, the work that they do with adults and young children from all walks of life is incredible and we at Topsail are very proud to be able to be a part of their incredible work.

Topsail Insurance has supported the work of the Ocean Youth Trust for a number of years and insures the vessel Prolific.
