The BMF are representatives of their members and on their behalf are able to showcase the latest products, conduct vital research and help to promote the marine industry, bringing greater awareness. For the 1,600+ members of the BMF, they are given a variety of benefits ranging from discounts on events and courses to free resources and the ability to network with those in the industry.
The BMF’s regional association in Kent and Sussex have recently appointed a new Chair, Vice-Chair and Secretary and are placing a particular focus on the networking benefit of being a BMF member. They are working towards providing excellent and efficient networking opportunities.
Members in Kent and the administrative county of East Sussex will have access to a platform which allows them to exchange business information as well as offer technical aid and arrange social meetings. The newly appointed team spearheading this idea is made up of Chairman - Giles Billingsley, Topsail Manager Laura Ruse as Vice-Chair and Sam Dallas who will be Secretary.
Giles Billingsley L.L.B. (Hons) – Chairman
Giles has worked in the marine industry for the last 16 years, initially as Marina Manager at Medway Bridge Marina, then as Managing Director/Owner for the last 12. Coming from a sales and marketing background from within the motor trade has enabled Giles to respond to the specific demands that the marine world has faced during the last five years; he is looking forward to some sustained growth as the economy improves.
Giles has been on the committee for BMF Kent and Sussex for the last two and a half years, and is looking forward to working with the other committee members over the next few years: “The BMF is the backbone of the marine industry, and I’m keen to promote its services and benefits in a pro-active way. An 'on the water' event and a networking event have already been planned for 2015, and I’m keen to meet with as many existing and new members to share ideas and plans.”
Laura Ruse – Vice Chair
Laura has gained seven years experience working for marine insurance specialists, Topsail Insurance Ltd where she holds the position as the company's manager. Laura has been on the BMFs committee for nearly two years now and since her appointment as Vice Chair, she is very excited about the role she will play in the BMF, helping to enhance awareness of the group and its benefits.
Sam Dallas – Secretary
Sam has been working in the marine industry for the last 12 years and is currently Marina Manager at Medway Bridge Marina. As well as the day to day running of the marina and looking after all the berth holders Sam also oversees the Volvo engineering, chandlery & RYA training centre operated by MBM.
